Yes, you should have a good cleansing regimen but be careful not to clean too much. Your skin produces enough sebum or natural oils to keep the surface hydrated. A good cleansing regimen cleans surface dirt and oil and removes dead skin cells, keeping skin surface fresh-looking and smooth.
Over cleansing, on the other hand, can strip the skin of natural oils and stimulate it to overproduce sebum. This in turn leads to the development of pimples and acne. For normal skin, wash face once a day, preferably before bedtime. If you have oily skin, wash twice a day using a mild cleansing gel. For dry skin, use a moisturizing cleanser and avoid exfoliating solutions.
Pick the Right Products
Look for a product that matches your skin type. Most brands offer a complete line of skin care regimen that allows you to wash, cleanse, moisturize and protect your skin. Stick with one brand or mix and match from a number of brands to find the right combination that works for you.
Get sun Protection
You may not notice it yet but if you did not get enough sun protection in your 20s, you may already have sun damage. Ideally, you should protect your skin from UV rays right from the time you were a child but if you haven’t, then it is time to start now. Use products such as moisturizers that contain a good sun protection factor or SPF. Go for at least SPF 15 or higher if you can find a good product and make sure it protects against UVA and UVB rays. Apply the product before going out and make sure to re-apply it throughout the day. Do not just focus on the face, though. Use products with SPF on the neck, torso, arms and legs and other body parts that get sun exposure.
In your 20s, start getting the right nutrients to provide support for your skin on the inside. Maintain a good diet and avoid stress. Get enough sleep and drink plenty of water. Water moisturizes the body’s cells and keeps them plump, so skin is smooth and healthy looking. Take supplements if required, avoid nicotine and load up on fresh fruits and vegetables.
Your skin is a work in progress. What you have now, whether it’s healthy, problem-free skin or skin that has a few issues, is temporary. Your skin can and will change.
