Most people today could use some tips for healthy strong nails. The good news is that keeping your nails strong and healthy does not have to be challenging. Below are some key things that you have to do to keep your nails healthy:
Keep Those Nails Hydrated
Whenever your nails get dry, you should rub a little bit of petroleum jelly on them. You should still put some petroleum jelly on your nails once a day even if your nails do not feel dry. If you do not like petroleum jelly, then you should consider trying castor oil. Castor oil contains vitamin E, which is one of the essential nutrients that your nails need.
Wear Gloves When Doing Your Chores
Scrubbing the bathroom floor, washing the dishes and other household chores can be very bad for your nails. That is why you want to make sure that you wear gloves when you perform those activities. Additionally, after you finish working, you should wash your hands and put some lotion on them.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Your diet affects your whole body, so you want to make sure that you are filling your diet with nutritious foods. Zinc is one of the many nutrients that has been shown to keep your nails healthy. Hard-boiled eggs and milk are examples of some of the foods that are rich in zinc. If you have noticed that you have white spots on your nails, then you probably are not getting enough zinc.
Biotin is another nutrient that helps keep your nails strong. This is a B vitamin that is found in eggs, walnuts, carrots and berries. There was a study done where people with brittle nails were asked to take biotin. The results of the study showed that 63 percent of the subjects noticed that their nails were stronger.
Trim Your Nails
Trimming your nails straight across will help prevent ingrown toenails. This is especially important if you are a type 2 diabetic. Many people file their nails in a back and forth motion. However, you should only go in one direction. You should never file right after you have taken a bath or shower.
