Some women feel that they have to wear certain hairstyles at certain phases of their lives, whether it is wearing it long at 25 or cutting it short after 50. The truth is, there are always stylish hairstyles for every age.
In your 20s, it is a great time to experiment with fashion and style. If you’ve ever wanted a unique hairstyle, you are at the right age to bring it up with your stylist. Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and other 20-something celebrities have cut their hair drastically, into trendy pixie cuts. This spring and summer, young women with long hair are using loose braids or low side-swept pony tails to keep their hair out of their face.
By the time most women reach 30, they are very busy with other aspects of their lives and don’t have as much time for style as they did during the decade before. Whether it is taking care children or working on a presentation for a big client at work, women in their 30s rarely have the time to dedicate to a time-consuming hairstyle. Wavy, natural hair and shoulder-length angular bobs are popular this season, and both are easy to manage and require infrequent trips to the salon for maintenance.
Many women feel like they are supposed to chop off their hair in their 40s, dedicating themselves to a shorter, older look. Celebrities over the big 4-0 stay looking young by doing just the opposite. Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez both grew their hair longer after 40, and the same long, wavy look can work for many women in their age bracket.
For women in their 50s, modern cuts with a short neckline and longer and longer pieces layered toward the front are in style this season. The spiky pixie cut that many women choose to go to after 50 is too harsh for most, and makes women look like they are trying to hard. The cut that is popular for the older crowd is also different from the pixie that’s popular for young girls in their 20s, because it is layered and longer in the front.
By the time most of us reach our 60s, we are more concerned by the color of our hair than the cut. Keeping a classic yet chic bob cut works well for women in their 60s, and is a timeless look. This allows women to focus on realistic color choices with soft highlights instead of choosing a trendy cut. Hair accessories are popular this season, and work well with this cut.
