What is “Flexible Scheduling”?

Avalon School of Cosmetology offers locations in Arizona, Utah and California. Learn what Flexibility means to Avalon

Flexible scheduling for many prospective students can be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing a cosmetology program.

The phrase “flexible scheduling” seems to be attached to every secondary education offer around. But, what does it really mean?

“Flexible Scheduling” refers to the option for students to attend as full-time or part-time pupils.

As a full-time student, you’re scheduled to be in class or on the clinic floor between 35-40 hours a week. Whereas a part-time student would need to be in class somewhere between 15-25 hours a week.

If you work full time, or perhaps care for children during the day, it would be nearly impossible to attend AND stay employed full time.

It increases the amount of access that interested students have in higher education by not interrupting existing work schedules.

The Benefits of Flexibility

Time to Keep Doing What You Need to Do

At Avalon, our cosmetology program requires students to complete 1,600 hours in order to be eligible to take the state licensing exam.

To complete those hours within 11 months to a year (industry standard for programs), a student would need to complete approximately 36 hours a week (more than 140 hours per month).

A part-time student would need to attend between 17 and 20 hours per week (about 80 per month).

So, clearly a part-time schedule leaves a lot more room to keep up with your responsibilities, like a job or family. Avalon Institute is working to dispel the myth that changing your career means that you have to put everything on hold, because at Avalon Instituteyou don’t!

Time to Adjust

For many people, cosmetology school is the first step in transforming their career paths, so the learning curve can be a struggle.

For instance, coming from a profession where daily tasks involved desk work and daily reporting, a classroom dynamic will surely be different!

Part-time scheduling allows for non-traditional students (or at least students who have been away from the classroom setting for a while) to ease back into the role of the student.
