The Giving Season

hands together
At Avalon School of Cosmetology, we believe in giving back. We believe that being a part of your local community is the best way to create lasting relationships for us and for our students. Avalon is offering donation drives throughout the months of November and December.

Food Drive

You can come into our student salon and receive a $5 haircut when you bring in one can of nonperishable food. This is a 50% discount.

Toy Drive

You can get a free haircut when you bring in a new, unwrapped toy. Check out our Facebook page to see information for both of these discounts.

By offering our friends and neighbors services, we are allowing everyone to be a part of the giving season this year. We encourage our students to feel joy that charity brings! Here are a few volunteer opportunities you can participate in near any of our four locations.

Arizona

You can volunteer for one of these events whether you are near our Phoenix location or our Mesa location.

Chef’s Night Off

You can help serve dinner to homeless youth in Phoenix, AZ on November 14. The chefs at HomeBase work hard, so they are getting a night off! You can learn more about this activity by visiting the HandsOn Greater Phoenix website.

Assistance for Independent Living

Help someone who needs a good neighbor. If you want to help an elderly, home-bound citizen make their appointments, you can volunteer to be a driver and companion. This is an ongoing effort that will work around your schedule. Check out their volunteer page for more information.

Arizona MG Walk

Volunteer for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation on December 4, 2016 from 8ma-1pm. You can help participants check in, help distribute food and drinks, and man the rest stop. To register, see their event information here.

Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids

When a foster child is removed from a home that is deemed unsafe, they don’t get to take many belongings with them. This event from the Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids will allow you to help make pillowcase, drawstring packs. A foster child can use this to gather their things when they have to make a move. The opportunity will be held on December 17, 2016 from 9am-12pm. See here for more event information and registration.

Babysitting

You can help volunteer any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday from now until May 2017. The Children’s Center needs volunteers who can help with after school services assisting in their Autism program. See their event page for more details.

Help Feed Hungry Mouths

Neighborhood House serves three meals a day to near 236 children per day in their daycare. You can help serve and make food (food handler’s permit required). Their schedule is flexible, so you can help out when you can. Their event page has more information.

Utah Community Action+Head Start is offering times for you to come in and help with emergency food assistance for those in low-income situations. They are open Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30am-5:00pm. Find their contact information here to get started.

Make a Difference

We are a proud to be hosting two of our own donation opportunities, and we hope that you can make it out to another event in your area this year!

Avalon would love to hear about all the volunteering and donations you do! Make sure to share with us in the comments below or on our social media pages. If you’re ready to go to cosmetology school, and you are a charitable person, Avalon may be the perfect place for you to learn and give back.
