What Do Estheticians Do?
Estheticians are responsible for providing preventative skin care services. They also perform treatments that keep the skin attractive and healthy. Estheticians may sell, manufacture or apply cosmetics.
Additionally, estheticians are trained to recognize common skin problems. However, they are not allowed to perform medical treatments or prescribe medications. They will need to refer patients who have serious skin problems to dermatologist.
Types of services that are provided by estheticians include:
- makeup application
- neck and head massage
- body masks
Most estheticians today work in salons or day spas. Some people become entrepreneurs and start their own business. Estheticians who decide to start their own business typically rent their own place. Some may set up a place in their home where they can provide services to their clients.
Some people also become medical estheticians. Medical estheticians work in clinics, hospitals, med spas, dermatologist offices or med spas. Additionally, a small percentage of estheticians may work in department stores as makeup artists. You are sure to find a job that fits you if you choose to become an esthetician.
