What Type of Financial Aid Is Available for Beauty Students?

Many of the same types of funding available to university students are also available to beauty school students. Some of this financial aid was created by stimulus funding after the 2008 recession, but most financial aid programs have been available for quite some time.

To apply for these aid programs, students are required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). The government will decide if you qualify how much you qualify for based on your need.

Here are our school codes when you fill out the FAFSA®

Some cosmetology students are not aware they are eligible to receive funding for their education! Here are some different types of financial aid available to those who qualify:

Grants

There are several different types of grants that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) offers.

Two of the main grants that students may qualify for are Federal Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG). With most grants, you typically don’t have to pay back any money once you are finished with school.

Scholarships

Avalon Institute offers scholarships to qualifying students to help them fund their dreams of pursuing beauty. There may also be other parties that offer scholarships to students. You should always check with the school you’re interested in and see what kind of opportunities are available and what types of scholarships they accept.

Loans

There are different types of loans that students may qualify for when looking for options to pay for school. There are four types of Direct Loans available to students: Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Direct PLUS Loans, Direct Consolidation Loans. Each loan has different options available to fit your needs.

School Aid and Private Aid

Most cosmetology schools have their own financial aid programs. All students can apply for these funds, and awards are given based on student need.

It’s important to look into the financial aid options the school provides so that you can focus on your education rather than how to pay for it. The financial aid advisor at your school will help you apply for private scholarships and other aid that you may qualify for. Many students are surprised by how much aid is available to them and how affordable their education can be!

Don’t look at the tuition cost of beauty school and get scared away, there are options available to make school more affordable for those who qualify.

Many schools also offer payment plans to help you accomplish your goal of paying for school. You should ask the admissions team when touring a school what kind of other financial opportunities are available to students who want to start beauty school.

We Can Help You!

When you are ready to submit your FAFSA®, beauty schools will typically have a financial aid advisor available to help you. They will be able to walk you through the process and ensure you properly apply for aid. If you are curious about how much funding you might qualify for, the government has a free tool online where you can get an estimate ahead of time.
