Recently, at home beauty remedies have been gaining popularity among the beauty community and media alike. Though some are still weary of applying food products to their precious locks, the benefits of natural food remedies far outweighs the gross factor. In addition to many other all natural beauty tricks, mayonnaise beauty treatments are very inexpensive and provide solutions for many beauty problems.
Mayonnaise may be used- alone or in a mixture- as a natural alternative to conditioners or deep conditioners. The eggs in mayonnaise help to add protein to the hair, and the other ingredients provide immense moisture. Be sure to thoroughly wash out any mayonnaise that is applied to the hair, as it may leave a powerful smell or cause grease if not properly removed. However, when used regularly (once a week for most hair types) mayonnaise can improve the overall condition of hair.
In addition to a conditioner, mayonnaise may be used for facials. Apply the mayonnaise all over your face; let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse off with cool water. The mayonnaise will help to hydrate the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
To help strengthen nails, regularly soak them in mayonnaise for about five minutes at a time. Again, the protein in the mayonnaise will transfer to the nails, which will strengthen them over time. The added moisture will also prevent nails from becoming brittle or flaky.
Skin Moisturizer/ Sun Burn Reliever
Although it is best to prevent sunburn, mayonnaise applications are one way to diminish the effects of sunburn. Apply the mayonnaise to any burnt areas, then gently rinse off after 20 minutes. The same method applies for skin that is severely dry. Mayonnaise again serves as a powerful moisturizer, which will hydrate skin and help improve its overall condition. Regularly utilize this treatment to overall reduce dry patches and keep skin healthy, but especially when skin is burnt.
Skin Exfoliating Scrub
On its own or mixed with sugar (to increase exfoliating powers) mayonnaise can be used to remove dead skin. Apply the mayonnaise or mayonnaise mixture and scrub skin with fingers. Let the mayonnaise soak in for a bit, and then rinse off with warm water. The sugar grains will help to buffer the skin, loosening any dead skill cells, and the mayonnaise will help restore skin.
