Qualifying For Grants For Esthetics School

Finding grants for esthetics school, such as Avalon School of Cosmetology, is not as difficult as one might think.  Those wanting to pursue a career as a skin care professional will find that there are many forms of financial assistance available from a variety of sources.

Grants for Esthetics School

The following is a list of the primary sources of educational assistance funds for prospective esthetics students:

Federal Pell Grant

Known as the “heart” of any financial aid package, this grant is available to all undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree and have financial need.  The Pell Grant program is administered by the U.S. Department of Education.  As of this writing (May 2013), the maximum Pell Grant award is $5,550 USD.  Apply for the Pell grant and other forms of federal financial assistance at fafsa.gov.

State Grants

Many U.S. states offer educational grants for state residents wanting to obtain post-secondary education.  These grants are need-based and vary from state to state.  Inquire at your prospective esthetics school’s financial aid office.  You may also apply for state grants when you submit your financial information at fafsa.gov.

Educational Associations

Various institutions and associations that support cosmetology-related careers are another good source of esthetics school grants.  The American Assoc. of Cosmetology Schools (“AACS”) offers numerous grants to those wanting to enter cosmetology-related professions.  AACS grants are not need based, but you must attend an AACS-accredited school to qualify.

Professional Associations

The National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/ Distributors and Associations (“NCEA”) was established in 2000 and currently offers grants in the amount of $1,000 USD.  To qualify, you must have completed at least one-half of your study program, have an academic average of at least 80 percent, and have attended classes at least 80 percent of the time.

The Cosmetology Advancement Foundation offers Access to Cosmetology Education (“ACE”) grants.  ACE grants were established and are awarded to highly motivated and very qualified individuals seeking to enter cosmetology-related fields.

A number of other professional associations and organizations also offer cosmetology scholarships.  Like grants, scholarship funds require no repayment.  Such organizations include the American Health and Beauty Aids Institute of Cosmetology (“AHBAI”), the National Interstate Council of Cosmetology State Boards, the Professional Beauty Association (“PBA”) and the National Cosmetology Association (“NCA”).  Visit Student Grants for more information about various cosmetology and esthetics grants and scholarships and the requirements therefore; scholarships and grants may be need-based, merit-based.

Esthetics Schools

Educational institutions that offer esthetics training frequently offer grants as incentives to enrollment.  Notable examples include Tricoci University of Beauty Culture in Chicago; California-based Marinello Schools of Beauty; Steiner Institute of Esthetics in Phoenix, Arizona; and, Empire Beauty School located in Tennessee.
