How to Get Cosmetology School Instructor Certification in Arizona

For some people, teaching someone about a technique is more rewarding that doing the technique yourself, meaning that those interested in the beauty industry would prefer pursuing cosmetology school instructor certification rather than working in salons or parlors where they can ply their trade.

The good news is that it is relatively simple to become an educator in cosmetology compared to many other higher education subjects, but the bad news is that it takes longer than it would to become ready to work at a beauty salon.

Arizona And Cosmetology School Instructor Certification

The state of Arizona has less qualifications in place of someone looking to be part of the healthy and beauty educational trade than many other states.  This is because Arizona is rapidly expanding in population and is always looking to accommodate new, highly-skilled workers.  It is also because the state has fewer barriers to employment than its neighbors.  As such, the certification process requires only a small fee and testing in comparison to other states.

Education Needed To Be An Instructor

Unfortunately, simply graduating from a health and beauty school does not make someone qualified to become a cosmetology instructor.  Instead, it is necessary to get a two-year graduate degree in cosmetology in order to pursue a career as an instructor.  This is typical for both Arizona and other states across the country, with very few exceptions.

The good news is that you can get a graduate degree from the same place that you can get an associate’s degree or a certification, since many of the classes are similar.  As a graduate student, you take more responsibility by helping other instructors lead classes.  You also have more work to do, including reading up on a large number of techniques and trends that incoming students will want to learn about.  Some programs will have classes dedicated to helping graduate students understand how to be a better teacher and communicator for the benefit of their students.

Becoming Certified As An Instructor

If you have graduated from cosmetology school and had to become licensed or certified as an esthetician or a hair stylist, you may already be familiar with the certification process.  Becoming an instructor is similar.  You must pay the state fee (in Arizona it is around twenty dollars) and then pass the exam.  At that point, you will have completed your training and will be available to instruct classes at nearby cosmetology schools.  Some may allow you to create your own classes, while others will require you to follow their protocol.

If you are interested in a career as an instructor at a cosmetology school or if you are interested in another way to break into the industry, you can get information and training needed from Avalon.edu.
