Cosmetologists and professional makeup artists know that the shape of your eyebrows is one of the most important factors in how you look. Properly shaped eyebrows can widen a thin face or narrow a round one. They can also lift your eyes, and either complement or detract from your other features. While your natural brow shape is probably close to the shape that is best for your face, getting rid of a few stray hairs here and there can improve your look. If you have ever wondered how to shape your eyebrows yourself, it can be as simple as following the tips below.
How to Shape Your Eyebrows Yourself
The first step in shaping your brow is to get rid of any stray hairs between them. The best way to do this is by determining the inner edge using your tweezers. Hold them vertically, with the open end down. Align the tweezers with the bottom of your nose, and use an eyeliner pencil to mark the point where the top of the tweezers touches your eyebrow. Repeat this on the other side. Use your tweezers to pluck any stray hair that is between these two marks.
Determine the Length
After you’ve plucked the hair between your brows, it’s time to focus on the other end of each brow. Again using your tweezers, place the open end next to the bottom of your nose. Align the tweezers with the outside corner of your eye, and mark where the top of the tweezers touches your eyebrow. This should be the outer edge of your brow. Pluck any hairs growing beyond this point. Repeat this process for the other eyebrow.
Check the Thickness
Deciding how thick your brows should be is the most difficult part of shaping your own brows. While almost everyone’s brows should fall between a quarter and a half inch thick at their thickest point, many people tend to over pluck. This leaves them with too thin eyebrows. The easiest way to ensure this does not happen is to trust your natural shape. Instead of trying to recreate the brow’s arch, simply use an eye pencil to draw a line along the bottom of your brow, against the last full row of hair. Any hair below this line should be plucked.
Shape the Arch
In most people, the arch in their eyebrows naturally aligns with the outside edge of the iris of their eye. Check to make sure that yours does. If not, mark this point with a pencil and remove a row of hair along the bottom of your brow between your nose and this mark.
