What Training Is Needed To Be A Facial Esthetician?

Now is a great time to become a facial esthetician. The job opportunities for an esthetician are expected to be numerous. The first step in starting a successful career in aesthetics is to complete the necessary training.

Understanding Facial Esthetics Training

Below is an explanation of the facial esthetics training needed:

Earn Your Certificate Or Degree

You have the option of earning a certificate or associate degree. Certificate programs are very brief and can usually be completed within one or two semesters. Makeup application, body polishing and self-tanning are some of the topics that are included in a certificate program. The program will also talk about health and safety techniques.

You will take additional courses in skin disorders, nutrition and hair removal if you choose to earn an associate degree.
You can earn your associate degree at technical or community college. Most programs require that students complete an internship at a salon before they graduate. Furthermore, you can also work under the supervision of a licensed professional and get additional training in product application, massaging techniques and skin analysis.

Although business courses are not required, you should consider taking them. Business and marketing courses will prepare you to open your own practice.

Get Licensed

After you earn your certificate or degree, you will be able to take the license. The licensing exam contains a practical and written portion, and you will need to pass both parts. You must be able to demonstrate your knowledge and ability to perform common esthetician tasks. You must also show that you are knowledgeable in health and safety practices.

Keep in mind that 16 is usually the minimum age required to take the licensing exam. You will need to renew your license every two years.

Take Continuing Education for Facial Esthetics Training

The field of esthetics is constantly changing, so you want to make sure that you stay on top of the changes. If you take continuing education courses, then it will be easy for you to keep up with all of the changes that are being made in this field. In addition to completing classes, you can also attend workshops and seminars to get extra education.
