Natural Ways to Keep Your Nails Healthy

Your nails require some care and attention to keep them looking their best. If you have noticed your nails don’t look healthy, or even appear brittle, there are natural solutions that you can employ for better nails. Make these changes in your life for nails you can be proud of.

The Cuticles

Soothing 24hr moisture...

We’ve all experienced problems with our cuticles in one way or another. These beginning points to our nails are subjected to tearing, overgrowing and other problems. While it is common for people to want to tackle the cuticles head on, WebMD experts recommend against this. The cuticles are the first barriers against bacteria and fungus as they try to cause damage. Messing with the structure of your cuticles too much will cause you to lose that protection. Never cut your cuticles and be careful when pushing them back. If your cuticles begin to look swollen and red, they might be infected.

To keep your cuticles in their best shape, moisturize them often. If nothing else this will help to prevent your nails from drying and cracking with the additional moisture. Start out small and see if it will make a difference for your nails.

While longer nails are often in style, they are also more likely to break. This can be damaging to them, causing more problems. While nails can still be healthy while long, in most cases it is better to keep your nails trimmed. Keeping them a manageable length will be healthier as a whole for your nails.

The Liquids

As you may have noticed while swimming or relaxing in a hot tub, leaving your nails in water for an extended period of time will begin to do damage, especially hot water. This is bad for both your nails and your skin. By exposing them to the heated water, the nails will begin to crack and dry out.

Although excessive amounts of water is bad for your nails, there are other liquids that may help to keep your nails healthy longer. Use cotton balls or q-tips to apply lemon juice to your nails. This is one of the most effective ways to remove stains and white spots. Repeat as necessary.

There are many potential natural solutions. Make sure to properly take care of your nails. If you notice problems arising, look at the way you are treating not only these, but your cuticles as well. Making the natural change will be beneficial to you, increasing the strength and beauty of your nails.
