Most Memorable Hairstyles of the 2014 World Cup

Most Memorable Hairstyles of the

The World Cup has come and gone with Germany winning their fourth World Cup title. While there are many memorable moments from the games in the past few weeks, some of the most memorable aspects will be the hairstyles that became famous from these events. Take a look at the soccer players with the most interesting styles, and how these looks are impacting everyone’s hairstyle.

Paul Pogba

While France was able to make it past Nigeria, they were doomed to fall to Germany in the quarter-finals. One of their most notable players was the young midfielder Paul Pogba who became known for wacky hairstyle. Pogba has not only a bleached line that runs through his mohawk, but two bleached stripes that run along the side of his shaved head. This distinct hairstyle distinguishes him from the crowd.

Kyle Beckerman

While this was Beckerman’s first experience with the World Cup, he made an appearance that will keep his name remembered in four years for the next tournament. With long dreads that came to symbolize much of the American team, Beckerman played a majority of the American World Cup games, developing the plays that would help lead his team to success. Despite being in the group of death, the United States was able to make it out of the group stages, in part because of Beckerman.

Marcos Rojo

Playing for Argentina in the final game of the tournament, Marcos Rojo’s hairstyle for the World Cup is more similar to France’s Olivier Giroud. The over the top slicked back look with shaved sides was one of the most popular looks for the World Cup, but none was more drastic than that of Marcos Rojo. The young Argentine player who plays for the Portuguese Sporting CP is made memorable not only by his playing abilities, but by his style as well.

Neymar became an iconic figure of the 2014 World Cup as the tournament progressed, being the star player for Brazil. While he wasn’t able to play in the match that led to their defeat at the hands of Germany due to a broken left vertebra, he was still an important symbol for his team throughout the tournament. After Brazil’s win against Croatia in the opening match, he dyed the top of his fauxhawk blond, creating an iconic hairstyle for himself in the game.

Soccer has become known for the interesting and over the top hairstyles from the short hair to the long. These trends will likely stick around for at least a while, as our favorite players become the models for our style. Look forwards to the next World Cup with not only how your favorite team will fare, but also how the styles will change.
