What is an Esthetician?
Thinking about a career in the beauty industry? You certainly should be! One of the fastest growing industries in the world, there’s nothing quite like the career choices here. Among this unique group of professionals are estheticians.
Understanding the Job
Estheticians are sometimes called skin care therapists, and for good reasons. They’re trained to work specifically with the skin issues many are concerned about most. From facials to waxing, they handle all kinds of tasks that help to enhance skin appearance as well as health. They can even create unique skin care regimens for clients to help them deal with specific problems. It’s important to note, though, that estheticians are not doctors, so they cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions. However, Estheticians learn all about the anatomy of the skin. They learn about many different skin products and how different products help different skin types. They help their clients treat different problems ranging from acne to dry skin and everything in between.
How Do I Become an Esthetician?
Estheticians are required to have a state-issued license, and for that, a training program is universally necessary. To become an esthetician, you’ll need to attend a great cosmetology school and receive your certificate of completion. While in school, you’ll not only get the classes you need to learn more, but you’ll also have a chance to put your knowledge to good use, working one on one with real clients. From there, you’ll take your state board exams, answering questions about the kinds of problems you’ll see and the type of equipment you may utilize. After you pass your state board, you’ll be ready to join a spa and start your new career.
