With the news that Marinello Beauty Schools is shutting down all 56 locations, the big question on the minds of 4,300 displaced students is, “What do I do now?”
Avalon School of Cosmetology is prepared to accommodate and assist Marinello students in any way we can. We are speaking directly with Marinello and have been assured that we will get access to everything we need to help students transfer. We’re even waiving application fees for former Marinello students.
So if you’re wondering what happens to your hours, your financial aid and how the transfer process works, here’s everything you need to know.
Step 1: Make Contact
The first step in making a transfer is to make contact with the admissions department. Just like you did when you were first shopping around, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a counselor and fill out an application.
If you’re transferring to Avalon from Marinello, your application fee will be waived. Speak with an admissions representative to make sure they’re aware of your circumstances.
Our goal is to ensure that each student is prepared with the tools and environment for success, so we will take you on a tour of the facility just as we would any new student.
Step 2: Provide Proof of Training
Once you have made contact, we will need to get your enrollment documents as soon as possible so as not to delay the process. These documents include but may not be limited to:
–Valid High School Diploma or Equivalent
–Transcript and or Proof of Hours completed
These documents help us to assess your skill level and preparedness for the program.
Students transferring from Marinello Beauty School will be provided with a closeout packet containing the following documents to make your transition to Avalon as smooth as possible:
–Academic Transcript w/ hours
–Copy of Applied Efforts (digital or hard copy)
–Tuition Account Ledger
–NSLDS detail of loans received
–Return to Title IV calculation worksheet and student notification
–Borrowers T4 Rights and Responsibilities
–Borrowers Repayment and Forgiveness information
Avalon School of Cosmetology is working closely with Marinello beauty schools to ensure that their students experience the least amount of disruption possible. Once these documents are made available to the Avalon admissions staff we can perform a thorough evaluation to place incoming students.
How Much Will It Cost?
Students transferring to the Avalon location in Layton, UT will enroll with our cost of tuition which is lower than the tuition cost to attend Marinello Beauty Schools.
Over all, these students will end up paying less for the remaining time in their programs, though Avalon’s cost of tuition at our Alameda, CA location is equivalent to Marinello’s.
Will I Still Get Financial Aid?
We are doing everything we can to reduce the burden on students, each transfer will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis in efforts to preserve as much financial assistance possible.
While each student will be assessed individually, students transferring from Marinello Beauty School will not have to purchase new equipment or kits and will be allowed to use the kits required for the original program the student was enrolled in.
How Long Will I Have to Wait?
From the time of the initial call to admissions, we expect to be able to meet with incoming transfers within one business day. Though that will depend on individual availability.
Can I still Graduate On Time?
Avalon’s programs are comparable to many other programs in terms of how long it takes to complete them. Fortunately, we do offer very flexible scheduling so that students may attend full time during the day or part time in the evenings.
Can I Change Programs When I Transfer to Avalon?
Again, each student will be assessed and evaluated individually and that will determine their trajectory.
However, depending on how much of the content a particular student has covered in their program already it is likely that you could change programs without having to make up too many hours.
The best way to know what your options are as a transfer student is to call and schedule an appointment to discuss your individual needs with an admissions representative.
Not coming from Marinello? That’s okay too! Avalon welcomes students that are eager to learn and hungry for success.
Remember: the early bird gets the worm! The faster you move in making contact and scheduling an appointment, the less time you spend out of class and losing out on valuable training and instruction.
