What Type of Financial Aid Is Available for Beauty School Students?

While many people think scholarships and financial aid are only available to university students, this is definitely not the case. Trade schools, including beauty schools, have a number of financial aid options available for those who qualify.

What type of financial aid is available for beauty students?

Many of the same types of funding available to university students are also available to cosmetology students. Some of this financial aid was created by stimulus funding after the 2008 recession, but most financial aid programs have been available for quite some time. However, some cosmetology students are not aware they are eligible to receive funding for their education.

There are a variety of federal aid programs that offer funding to beauty school students. These include the Federal Pell Program, Federal Student Loan Program and SEOG Program. A Pell grant is money towards your education that you do not have to pay back. A student loan will need to be paid back over time once you have completed your education. To apply for these aid programs, students are required to submit a FAFSA (Federal application for student aid.) The government will decide if you qualify and for how much based on your need.

When you are ready to submit your FAFSA, the beauty school will have a financial aid advisor available to help you. They will be able to walk you through the process and ensure you properly apply for aid. If you are curious about how much funding you might qualify for, the government has a free tool online where you can get an estimate ahead of time. However, this is just an estimate and the actual amount could be higher or lower after you submit your FAFSA.

School Aid and Private Aid

Most cosmetology schools have their own financial aid programs. All students can apply for these funds, and awards are given based on student need. Students can receive grants, scholarships, and loans. Grants and scholarships do not have to be paid back, and they are awarded to students who met certain criteria. They can be applied directly to the cost of tuition.

It’s important to look into the financial aid options the school provides because it is likely the government will not pay for all of your education. The financial aid advisor at your school will help you apply for private scholarships and other aid that you may qualify for. Many students are surprised by how much aid is available to them and how affordable their education can be. Don’t look at the tuition cost of beauty school and get scared away, there are options available to make school more affordable for those who qualify.
