We’re going to give you our best tips for planning out a future in cosmetology!

Find Your “Why”

When planning out your dreams, it’s important to find your “why”. You know you want to pursue a career in beauty, but WHY? Answering this question first will help you choose a career that you can be happy with long term. Here’s a list of questions you can ask yourself that can help you find you’re why:

• What’s my dream job?
• When did I first fall in love with the beauty industry?
• Do I have a passion for hair, skin, and nails?
• What lifestyle do I want when it comes to my career?
• Do I enjoy working with people?

Set Goals

Now that you know you’re why, it’s time to set some goals! The new year is the perfect time to set some goals! Setting goals helps motivate you and gives you something to work towards. Aim for making big and small goals! You don’t want to overwhelm yourself with only having big goals; and you’ll appreciate all the little wins as you reach your small goals.

We recommended writing down your goals and keeping them visible! The more places you have your goals displayed, the more likely you are to keep it at the front of your mind.

Make A Plan

Now it’s time to figure out how to accomplish your goals! Look at your goals one-by-one, and create a plan to get there. List out the necessary steps in order to achieve your goals! Find A Good Support System

Finding a good support system is crucial! When it all feels too overwhelming and difficult, they will be the ones to lift you up and tell you to keep going. They will be there as a shoulder to lean on for your bad days and a cheerleader on your good days. This can be your family, friends, or other students! Your support system will be there for you and encourage you to grow!

Mentors are an incredible resource to help guide you on your path! They’re been in your shoes before and can give sound advice. If you have no idea how to find a mentor, consider members of the following groups:

• Admissions director at your future school
• Educators at your school
• Individuals in the beauty industry
